About Us
My name is Pennie Alger (f/k/a Johnson), and I’m a Michigan attorney who spends a lot of time thinking about people’s past mistakes and their futures. I practice in West Michigan, primarily in Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon, and Allegan Counties, and I’ve seen up close how a single conviction can keep showing up in the worst possible moments: job applications, housing, professional licenses, school events, background checks you didn’t even know were happening.
I created CleanSlateCheck.com because most people don’t need a full-blown law firm engagement just to answer one basic question: “Can I clear my record, and if so, how?” Traditional legal services often assume you can afford to pay a lawyer in an hour what many people take home in a week. I disagree. Strongly.
Before launching this project, I spent time in both traditional practice and in the legal-tech world, including work at Intuit with TurboTax, helping everyday people handle complicated systems on their own with the right guidance. CleanSlateCheck.com comes from that same philosophy: take something needlessly intimidating, strip out the jargon and the gatekeeping, and give people tools they can actually use.
As a licensed Michigan attorney and active member of the State Bar, I stay current on Michigan’s expungement and Clean Slate laws and how local courts are actually applying them. My goal here is simple:
- Give you an accurate eligibility analysis for your Michigan convictions
- Explain your options in plain English
- Provide a clear, step-by-step plan and the forms you need to move forward
I don’t believe you should have to empty a bank account or sign up for open-ended hourly billing just to find out whether the law will let you move on. This is a focused, flat-fee service designed for one thing: helping you understand what Clean Slate can do for you and how to use it.
No scare tactics, no lectures about old mistakes, and no judgment about how you got here. You’ve lived with your record long enough. My job is to help you figure out whether the law finally gives you a way out.
